Persepolis and Other Great Comics

In my previous (previous! yay!) job, I was really, really, really bored. A lot. And thus became addicted to several webcomics...since they were easy to hide from my coworkers and I had (sometimes) years worth of daily comics to catch up on. When I'm feeling like bearing more of my soul, I'll post the list of webcomics I "must" read every week. ;-)

So anyway, I love webcomics, and I love (most) styles of graphic novels, and I really loved the Persepolis Stories that Marjane Satrapi put out a few years ago. ( book links! ) Lo and behold, I wasn't the only one reading them--the Seattle City Library had the first in the series as one of their "Seattle Read's" picks and the French (people) loved it so much they made it into a movie. ( movie link! ) Retardo and I went to see it on Friday and it was frabjulous!

The point of this post though! There is a point! Is that while feeding my webcomic addiction, I ran smack into this comic on Married to the Sea. It's great! And, once you see Persepolis, even more funny. I promise.

Book List Archive

Recently Finished Books:

The Subtle Knife -- Philip Pullman (Yeah, well, I'm a bit compulsive once I know that the story continues...and I know the books are inexpensive...and that I can finish them in an evening. 1/17)

The Birth and Death of Meaning -- Becker (Had to read this for one of my classes. Pretty dense psychology text that was fabulously modern in the early 70's. Interesting tho. 1/15)

To Say Nothing of the Dog -- Connie Willis (I have read it at least four times now, maybe more. It's one of the books I return to when I can't sleep because I know the characters so well it's like visiting friends AND because I know I'll be able to put it down when I get sleepy. 1/14)

The Golden Compass -- Philip Pullman (Interesting. A bit preachy, but I still want to read the rest of the triology, so I guess it wasn't too bad. :-} I haven't seen the movie yet, and am not sure I want to. 1/14)

House of Spirits -- Isabel Allende (My brothers girlfriend gave this to me for Christmas, which was fabulously coincidental since I loaned my copy away and it never came back. It's still a wonderful book. I read it the first time when I took a class in Chile (A Long Time Ago), and part of my love for the book has a lot to do with that trip. 1/12)

The Lies of Locke Lamora -- Scott Lynch (Really liked this book--definitely recommend it. Good fantasy and it moved quickly enough that I wasn't bogged down in the violence and blood. 1/9)

Three hours...

...and yes, there was blood. There was also a violent neurotic...but I'll stop before I give it away. I recommend renting it in the small size--was just a little too creepy for me at the movie theater. The violence was very humanized--you definately could see the whole of it, and each individual was entirely character bound and dense as all hell. But...twas really really creepy. Worth seeing, but not worth seeing twice.

Finished Object!

Finally got around to finishing this little bag. It's the only thing to show for the 25 hours or so Retardo and I spent in the car over Xmas. It could hold an number of things...as long as they are no larger than my ipod. :-)

Locked Myself Out of Car...

locked myself out of my car and now I can't go home, but must sit here, with nothing to do, nothing I really want to do, and no where to go...And no, I didn't get to draw those keys. I drew a different picture--of me, not being able to get to my keys. :-(

It's Payday...Or I Wouldn't Be Here

Am actually in the office...if I get paid for the next three days with the paycheck I get today then it will by my last day in the office. If my boss continues to be an ass I won't be, in which case I have to take my laptop back home with me when I leave and bring it back on Friday. Or Thursday, since being at this office on Friday is like being at church on Tuesday afternoon--only the people with nothing better to do show up.

revitalizing the neighborhood

it's been time, and it is time, and therefore the great blog revitalization project has begun. factors: being in school full-time again, being laid off from my job, and increased access to internet have lead me to begin compiling and adding the things I meant to post, forgot I could post, emailed to myself, or didn't want to post but am now thinking I could possibly post. not to mention the perpetual new years resolution to be more honest. which means, for me, trying to tell more of the truth even if it's not the whole truth. everyday there will be more posts. they may be Really Really Old Posts. or artwork, or pictures or clips relating to things that I know happened around a certain day. an incomplete maze is still interesting; hedgerows and curves and wild cats in the undergrowth are alluring, yes?
